Maytag MSD2454GR and Sears Repair
We've had this machine 3.5 years with no troubles. 12 days ago, it stopped defrosting. Freezer-coils were completely iced-up. Sears *repaired* it under the terms of our extended maintenance agreement by replacing the adaptive defrost control board.
Within two days, we were right back where we started--same problem, same icing--with another week-long wait before we could see the Sears guy again. Any telephoned appeals for quicker service were met with thinly-veiled derision by Sears representatives.
On his return, the (same) technician said *the board was loose*--so he reinstalled it, checked the defrost heater for function, and departed.
Here it is, another two days later, and we are back to square-one with iced-up coils, no defrost function--and now looking at another 9-day wait for the Sears guy.
I have questions: Is there any appeal I can make to Sears to shorten my wait?
Is this unit a poor-performer, prone to continuing problems? Can I fix this myself?
Or, should I cut to the chase, and just purchase another unit?

I would think that if the coils are iced up after 2 days, it would indicate a problem within the system itself.(freon). Check your door gaskets too.

Actually, the freezer is working fine--so some cooling is occurring. I wonder if it is a malfunction in the condenser-side of the system, since the wall between the freezer and refrigerator sections is quite warm. My wife is getting quite good, however, at defrosting coils...

Did the Sears tech. completely defrost the evaporator coil when he changed the defrost board?
I have changed lots of these defrost boards on the Maytags like yours, and have learned that the whole evap. coil has to be completely free of frost, even in that hidden spot behind the evap. coil.

I really don't know if the Sears tech fully defrosted the evaporator coil--but, I assume he did. Is there something I can do at this point to correct the problem, if he failed to do this properly? This whole adventure has become very frustrating. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yea, you can take off the evaporator back panel inside the freezer, then get a flashlight or droplight, then get a hair dryer, and make sure there is no ice/frost built up on or behind the evaporator.

Maytag Refrigerator MSD2454GR
I have a Maytag refrigerator MSD2454GR model side-by-side. Every few days, water accumulates in the bottom of the freezer side. It creates an ice jam at the bottom of the freezer and leaks onto the floor. I can't find where the leak is coming from. It was still under warranty when we had a Maytag repairman come out and it did okay for a short while and now is doing it again.
Any help appreciated.
Jake...
